Challenge #3
SIRS Discoverer
1.) I look up antelope and found a number of articles on this. I like how it has the color code for reading levels. Great facts different age groups. In it I also found a article that had a activity which kids will find very interesting and fun. Great pictures also.
2.) I looked up the country Sweden. On the left hand side it gave you a quick reference of the country from the official name to the holiday/observances. The right hand side gives you a map and a picture of the flag. I like how you can find over 3000 detailed maps of the world. Great place for kids to go if they need a copy of a map. The other database feature I looked at was the science fair explorer. I found this to be a great resource. My 3rd grader needs to do a science experiment very soon so together we sat down and looked at this and discovered many experiments that she could do. She loved the site.
SIRS Issues Researcher
1.) I like how right at the beginning it helps you find a subject, you can look at the top 10 or you can use the visual browse to find a subject. I looked up Animal Welfare. This had a great overview of Animal Welfare it gives you the pro/cons of the issues. With the research tools the note organizer would be a great help for a student who is trying to get started.
2) In the Curriculum Pathfinders I looked up Health. When I put my mouse over Health it came up with more topics like Body Image, depression, teenage pregnancy, and many more. Then I clicked on Body Image then it went into different articles from Beauty pageants to Tanning Salons.
Thanks for your work, MKayl! You found some great stuff. We're always happy when you use a "test audience," too. Happy Science Fair!
ReplyDeleteI also liked the pro/cons feature in the SIRS Issues Researcher! Helps students to see a different side to their issue.
