I have used Ancestry and Heritage Quest often so I was happy to do this week challenge.
1) I typed in my name Misi Kayl and there were no records. Then I typed in Misi Marea Blotsky (maiden name) and it came up with 2 results. The first record was U.S. Public Records index and it said that my birthdate was 1,Sep, 1968 but this information is incorrect that is not my birthday. Then I looked at the U.S. phone and address directories 1993-2002 and it listed all the places that I have lived at. I went in to do a search for my marriage license and it was not there.
2.) I used Ancestry just a couple of months ago when I was searching for information on my family for a Century Farm Award in South Dakota. During my search I was able to find the certain dates when my Great Grandfather come over from Ireland.
3) I typed in South Dakota in the locations spot and clicked on Passenger ships and found the ship Abyssinia form the shipping line Canadian Pacific. It was in service from 1870-1891. It gave me a great picture of the boat.
4) In Heritage Quest I clicked on the book tab and searched Vermillion South Dakota in the places name slot. It came up with 52 results but really the only one was the Harned Family by Keith Arthur Lesie. . There was lots of information for somebody who is part of this family. What a wonderful place to find priceless information.
5) In the Sanborn maps I looked at the Vermillion South Dakota map from April 1931-June 1939 and I found the location where our Public Library stands now and found out that in 1931 it was the location of the Vermillion High school. It was fun to look at the different maps and to see how things have changed. These maps are great but I think that some patrons may have a hard time looking at them.
What interesting finds, you made, Misi! Sounds as if you have a good handle on these resources and can help patrons use them. If you go into the individual collections (clicking on them at the bottom of the home page and then continuing to narrow down from there), you can find more details about what's included. SD marriage licenses are from 1905-1949 only--so far. Thanks for your work here!
